John has autism and a spinal condition, and has undertaken a long, difficult journey to become an upstanding member of the workforce.
He began with STEPS Noosa in early 2010 as a full-time activity-tested client. STEPS helped John work through a few initial barriers with work skills training via our JumpStart Program and onsite counselling with Helen Evans.
John gained employment as a trolley collector, and his attitude and focus on work quickly turned around, to STEPS delight. He never misses or turns down a shift, always arrives on time and is willing to come into work whenever he is needed.
John says employment has given him a new determination to work hard as well as a strong sense of independence and purpose.
He’s now planning to move into his own place and hopes to gain full-time employment, exceeding his benchmark hours.
He thanks STEPS for not giving up on him. We’d like to say, “Well done, John!”
