Deborah provides facilitated job search assistance to jobseekers to build confidence and skills for work.  We recently caught up with Deborah to find out why she enjoys her role so much.

Can you tell me how you came to volunteer at STEPS?

I saw an advertisement for the ‘By Your Side’ program on the internet, contacted Cheryl McGrath and started on my volunteer journey with STEPS.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Meeting many different people and feeling that I’m helping them to achieve their goals.

Have you experienced any special or memorable moments in your time volunteering for STEPS?

Every time one of our clients achieves success!  It’s fabulous when we hear that someone we know has gained employment.

What would you say to others who were thinking about volunteering?

Just do it!  Whatever effort you put into your volunteer role, you will be rewarded many times over with the friendships you make and work skills you gain.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

STEPS  has been a fabulous organisation to work for – they have always supported and included me, and make me feel like a valued member of the team.
