After securing a traineeship earlier this year, Zackary Johnson has been nominated for the 2018 Bundaberg and District NAIDOC Apprentice/Trainee of the Year Award.
Working in administration at Gidarjil Development Corporation, the aspiring business owner is currently studying a Certificate III in Business.
Zackary said he has learnt a lot since starting his new role and studying at TAFE and was surprised by the nomination.
“It feels good, my hard work is being acknowledged,” he said.
This year’s NAIDOC Week will be held from 8th – 15th July, with celebrations happening across Australia.
As well as being nominated, Zackary has also been selected as the Bundaberg and District NAIDOC Secretary and he encourages everyone to come along and take part.
“I will be attending every event,” he said.
“If you are interested in coming to these events head to the Bundy NAIDOC website to find out more.”
Zackary said he loves working in an office and being the first point of contact but he initially struggled to find the right role after leaving school.
He said he found STEPS Employment Solutions Partner Sheryll-lee Hughes to be very helpful.
“She would go above and beyond to help me find employment,” Zackary said.
Sheryll-lee said Zackary has always been focused on doing his best and setting goals.
“He is a great young man and is a valuable team member at his place of work”.
“I have no doubt he will continue to do well and go on to do bigger and better things,” Sheryll-lee said.
The winners of the 2018 Bundaberg and District NAIDOC Awards will be announced at the Bundy Gala Ball on Saturday 14th July 2018.
