STEPS Care for Carers Childers celebrate Christmas with class.
The Childers Care for Carers group celebrated Christmas by sharing in a morning ‘High Tea’ complete with their own teacup and accompanying story. Many of the women in the group shared the story of their teacup along with some emotional tears and it was incredibly uplifting to be a part of such a supportive group of women. Each teacup had a terrific story from travels in exotic locations to being witness to the turbulent history of the owner. Many were handed down through generations and some even made it through the war. There were a few nervous moments when the teacups were used, some for the first time, for morning tea which was beautifully laid out by the ladies.
The Childers group has maintained a steady attendance of ladies who have helped each other through some very difficult caring moments and have supported each other both emotionally and practically. The ladies have welcomed new members to the group and sadly said good-bye to older members; they have taken the initiative and started a second, purely social group that meets on the ‘off-fortnight’ and they will be looking at pooling their considerable talents towards a charitable venture in the new year.
After teacup stories were told, the Carers enjoyed cucumber sandwiches and petit fours before indulging in a little seasonal silliness with Christmas trivia, compiled by group facilitator, Justine Halpin and Aussie version Christmas songs provided by facilitator Julie Blake.
The morning was a great success and testament to the fellowship and support that the Care for Carers program is bringing to Carers in the Wide Bay.
