I registered with STEPS while I was in Grade 12, as I wanted to get some part-time work to see me through both university study and university holidays. I really wanted a job in a field which had something to do with communication, as I have an extensive background in radio communication with my local surf lifesaving club.
From the minute I registered with STEPS I loved the way their service was delivered and the efficiency with which I was assisted to obtain steady part-time employment.
After every appointment I felt I had really accomplished something, even if it was as small as having made a change to my resume which would see me gain some sort of work.
Eventually in late February 2012, I obtained employment with STEPS as a Business Communications Consultant. I received extensive support and was not only employed within the company, but got to experience the support given to someone who had employment.
It was in late January of 2013 that I moved to the Maroochydore office. From that day on, I have been amazed by the continual level of support that I have been provided with from everyone at STEPS, from the IT staff to my Employment Consultant. I receive transportation to and from work twice a week by my Employment Consultant, and feel that the support I have been provided with by STEPS could not have been better if I had asked for it.
I like STEPS because they specifically manufacture the support that you require, rather than providing everyone with exactly the same support. If I did not receive transportation assistance two times a week, I would have to pay for a cab or catch a bus which would result in a lengthy walk from the Sunshine Plaza to work, a walk which, being blind, I would not be willing to attempt.
In short, if I did not obtain this assistance I would not be able to maintain employment. I am extremely grateful to STEPS for the services with which I have been provided.
